Chapter 6

What i know about this chapter is the ability to  identify the topic of a paragraph and main idea. What i want to know about it is how can you figure out and implied the main idea easier. What i learned in this chapter is the difference between general and specific ideas, identifying the topic of a paragraph, and finding the stated main idea of a paragraph. What i still want to know is there a way we can locate the topic sentence faster.

Chapter 5

Reading as Thinking

Reading as your thinking. read for meaning, trying to understand what your reading to make more sence. Highlighting could be one major hint to better yourself as you move on and try to review it all over again. Testing yourself while reading is also a good way to try and remember what your reading. Either by repeating the main ideas out loud or rewrite it. One of the strategies i use is that i go over the objective or questions before reading, to have an idea ahead of time. Five techniques that can help you are previewing, asking guide questions, reading for meaning, testing yourself, and reviewing.


Indoor Air pollution

 What i know about this topic is that Air pollution can be cause by smoking or gas being realest into the atmosphere such as factories, cars. What i want to know about it is what other chemicals can lead to air pollution that i dont know about and how. What i learned in this chapter is that Indoor air pollution can be 40 times more dangerous than outdoor air, and comes primarily from six sources: woodstoves, furnaces, asbestos, formaldehyde, radon, and household chemicals. Woodstove emit significant levels of particulates and carbon monoxide in addition to other pollutants, such as sulfur dioxide. Furnace Emissions, inadequate cleaning and maintaining can lead to a buildup of carbon monoxide in the home, which can be deadly. Asbestos, is a mineral that was commonly used in insulating materials in buildings constructed before 1970. Formaldehyde, A colorless, strong smelling gas presence in some carpets, draperies, furnitures particle. Exposure to formaldehyde can cause respiratory problems. Radon, is one of the more serious forms of indoor air pollution. it penetrates homes through cracks, pipes sump pits and other openings in the foundation. Is the second worst cancer in the world, lead by smoking as leader cause of lung cancer.  And lastly Household Chemicals, avoiding buildup, cutting down dry cleaning, and avoid the household use of refreshner products containing the carcinogenic agent dichlosobenzene a deadly chemical. What i still want to know is there a way we can avoid using household products because we need them, when the house is smelling bad. What other products can we use.?

Chapter 4

Using words parts and Learning new words

What i learned in this chapter is that prefixes are begining of words roots are middle of words, and suffixes are ending of words. They unlock the meanings of thousands of english words. Collegiate and unabridged dictionaries, online dictionaries, ESL dictionaries, subject area dictionaries, and the thesaurus are all useful in building a strong vocabulary. To pronounce unfamiliar words, use the pronunciation key in your dictionary and apply the seven rules. Index cards is a good method in learning new vocabulary words.
