Using Context Clues
This Chapter is about the five types of context clues, definition, synonym, example, contrast, and inference. You can use any of these context clues in your passage to make the reader understand what he/she is reading. Definition clues have three types of punctuation; commas, parentheses, dashes. Many writers defines a word immediately following its use. At other times, rather than formally define the word, a writer may provide a synonym- a word or brief phrase that is close in meaning. Writers often include examples that help to explain or clarify a word. Sometimes possible to determine the meaning of an unknown word from a word or phrase in the context that has an opposite meaning. Many times you can figure out the meaning of an unknown word by using logic and reasoning skills. The Type of context clue I prefer to use in my writing is example clues. To explain or clarify what I'm writing to readers and make them understand more.
