Chapter 2

The Basic of college textbook Reading

The Difficult communication encounters known as conversational dilemmas. In this Chapter I learned the different examples of conversational dilemmas such as being caught in a lie, saying something you shouldn't, being judged as not saying anything right, and feeling torn between telling the truth and lying. Also using various strategies to get a away with some situations, like Direct Response- includes blunt talk; Indirect response- strategic ambiguity; Deception- direct misrepresentation of the truth; Impression management- apologies, excuses, explanations; Pleasing the other- compromises and giving in to avoid conflict or additional awkwardness; Soliciting the others help- asking for more information.
